O motor concebido por Porsche tem uma história pontilhada de sucessos. Desde os primeiros estudos, feitos na década de 30, até a apresentação do protótipo "final" em 1938 foram feitos vários estudos. Apresentamos aqui alguns dados para informação e reflexão sobre este motor que em breve deixará as linhas de produção em série. | The engine conceived by Porsche has a history of successes. Since the first studies, made in the decade of 30, until the presentation of "the final" prototype in 1938 some studies had been made. Tudo começa com uma idéia, com um conceito, e este é o primeiro rascunho feito por Porsche que se conhece, ele data de 1931. Foi feito bem antes de 22 de junho de 1934 quando a saga do motor VW Boxer definitivo teve seu início. O croqui leva a entender que a primeira idéia de Porsche para motor era uma versão radial, o que foi abandonado ainda na época dos protótipos da era "Pré-Volkswaven", especificamente Zündapp. |
| Everything starts with an idea, with a concept, and this is the first rough draft made for Porsche that is known, it dates from 1931. It was made well before 22 of June of 1934 when the Saga of definitive VW Boxer engine had its beginning. The sketch leads to understand that the first idea of Porsche for motor was a radial version, this concept was abandoned still at the time of the prototypes of the "Pré-Volkswaven" age, specifically Zündapp in this case. | |

Vários conceitos foram testados antes do motor definitivo ser definido. Dentre as primeiras alternativas foi considerada esta de duplos pistões, com uma solução técnica bastante sofisticada. Foi preconizada por Porsche, mas acabou mostrando não ser viável por problemas de refrigeração. À direta abaixo está o motor de arranque combinado com o dínamo. | Some concepts had been tested before the definitive engine was defined. Amongst the first alternatives this of double pistons was considered, with a solution technique sufficiently sophisticated. It was praised by Porsche, but it finished showing not to be viable for refrigeration problems. Below right one it is the combined start motor and dynamo is shown. Além dos motores "tradicionais" também foram feitas outras versões, como os motores planos, da foto. Mesmo os motores "tradicionais" foram usados de maneiras diferentes, na frente, como no caso do Tempo Matador e do Gol primeira série. Exemplos de outros usos serão mostrados adiante. |

O "Spirit of Santa Paula" atravessou o Atlântico acionado por um motor VW Boxer 1200. Foi o resultado de um concurso que o piloto tcheco Mira Slowak ganhou, voando durante 147 horas, 42 minutos e 7 segundos. Foram realizadas etapas de dez e doze horas entre as 9 aterrisagens para reabastecimento. Este concurso foi lançado pelo jornal britânico Daily Mail e o prêmio seria ganho por um piloto que voasse mais rápido entre o Empire State Building de Nova York e a Torre de televisão de Londres. Slowak foi o vencedor em sua classe. |
| The "Spirit of Paula Saint" crossed the Atlantic driven by a 1200cc VW Boxer engine. It was the result of a competition, won by the Czech pilot Mira Slowak, flying during 147 hours, 42 minutes and 7 seconds. Stages of ten and twelve hours between the 9 landings for refueling had been carried through. This competition was launched by the British magazine Daily Mail and the prize was for the pilot who would fly faster between the New York's Empire State Building and the Television Tower of London. Slowak was the winner in its category. | |
